Dave, Obviously I disagree with your decision, but it sounds like your mind is made up. I think this only highlights the differences that PR people and journalists have. My interest is not in making sure that Sony has positive news or that the timing of their news is correct, my job only is to inform the readers of news as quickly and accurately as I can. Hopefully, one day this dispute will settle down and you will reopen communication with us. Know this, while I disagree with this decision and think it is a monumental mistake, it will not effect our continuing coverage of Sony and the gaming software and hardware your company makes and supports. Take care, Brian

Though niero did point out an interesting post on there...

36. KOTAKU WAS AN AFFILIATED BLOG/NEWS SITE WITH SONY AND IS ENTITLED TO BENEFITS LIKE DEBUG UNIT, SPECIAL ACCESSES TO STUFF ETC, BUT THEY HAVE TO FOLLOW STRICT ORDERS FROM SONY, SO IN FACT HE WAS TREATING HIS BLOG AS A REAL BLOG WHEN IT WAS A SONY "CHANNEL" BLOG. SINCE HE DIDNT FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS HE NO LONGER GET SEMI OFFICIAL ACCESSES SO IN ESSENCE HES JUST A NORMAL BLOG NOW HE DOESN'T GET THE EXCLUSIVE CRAP ANYMORE. HE BROKE THE RULES SO HE DOESNT GET THE BENEFITS ANYMORE. so hopefully you guys understand now.... anon

Dang, how the hell does Sony think this will help them? Now all Kotaku can report from Sony IS roumers!

Thats stupid! Aint that the whole idea of a blogg that its supose to post stuff like this? Not realy a relyable news site, but more of a "the word on the street" -site?

I dont see what Kotaku did wrong here...

Kudos for supporting Destructoid's blogger brethren with that awesome banner. Needs more pirate, though.

Also, I wonder what the response would be if the exact same thing happened to Joystiq, though I doubt their journalistic integrity.

I still think it is bullshit.. If they claimed it was a rumor all sony had to do was say we don't comment on those, and keep the party going. Why be a total dick bout the whole thing.

...kaplan perin is notorious for that shit.. They need new PR people ..

Good, at least they saved some face. I'm sure letting emotions get the better of them eliminated any rational thought for that moment.

I can easily imagine what the situation must have been:

"What? Blogs have independent thought? Activate PROJECT CAPITAL LETTERS!"

*whirrrrrrrrrrrrr* *click* *boo boo boop*

"SONY SMASH! RAWR!"

As a future PR person, I agree and disagree with Mr. Sony PR Guy. His job is to highlight the good and contain or fix the bad. To him and sony, the rumor was bad and he was only doing what he thought he was supposed to do: get rid of the story!

But

I do not think he went about it in the right way. The whole prior restraint isnt exactly ethical or even constitutional (United States v. New York Times, the Pentagon Papers case).

Glad to see things worked out. I'll be bringing this up in my PR ethics class today fo sho.

It's Sony's own job to put out the good. They rarely do that to begin with and the internet is an open forum. Freedom of speech, and it's not bound by true news-sites.

The fact that they actually threatened to take back the debug unit, that's just low.
