How did you find Destructoid???

I'm not sure if there's a thread of this nature so I decided to create one. Yes, I know there's a "How long have you been here" thread but this one is different in nature. So if there's type of thread has been done, point me in the direction and I'll C&P there.

The community of Destructoid is like no other and I think we have the best community hands down. We have people from all walks of life and we continue to grow on a daily basis. How we got here and why we stay are stories that should be shared and that is why this thread has been created.

I stumbled across the site in two different ways: I really wanted to get into the gaming industry (and will do so eventually) and wanted to fake my way into E3 when it was still huge by writing a blog. Well to my surprise someone had the same idea as me and actually did it. I remember writing Niero an email basically telling him that I loved the site and if he had any pointers for me. To my surprise, he actually emailed me back with some thoughts on the matter. After that exchange I decided to poke around the site and see what the community was like. I liked the direction the site was going towards but what sealed the day was:

Snaileb. In 2006 I was hooked like crazy on DOA4 and played that game non-stop. Fate would have it that I played Snaileb a few rounds online here and there and ended up adding him to my friends list. Imagine my surprise when I say an article in the C-Blogs from Snaileb. I say all that to say this: Snail is a pretty cool ass dude, as most of you know, and if he thought D-toid was a great place to chill and be apart of then I was all for it.

And that's pretty much it. Things so far have been a blast and are only going up from here. I can't wait to see what '08 holds for Destructoid and I'll be here for every step in the ongoing growth of the site.

Britney Spears vagina led me to Destructoid. No, cereally. I saw it on WWTDD, which linked to thelastboss, which in turn linked to Destructoid.

I haven't turned back since.

A friend of mine was reading it and told me about a Wii contest they were running. I thought to myself 'hey, that's kinda cool. I'd like a Wii.' Between us, we figured out what the answer was, and I posted in the thread a handful of times usually remembering while I was perusing the articles available on the site.

Then I won a Wii, and Destructoid earned a lifelong reader.

I just looked and there it was! It doesn't move around much so it was pretty easy.

Seriously though, geopositional data and all my years of orienteering (0.02) didn't help in the least. Turns out the internet tubes don't work with that system. I had to type it into a small text box at the top of a colourful window that gets displayed when I enter into the internets.

Ahem.

Very early after Destructoid's inception, it got a tiny bit of media coverage over it's original use, as described by the ever capable Kryptinite. I pretty much bookmark everywhere interesting I go to on the net and Dtoid was a place I would hop onto every now and again.

I was using StumbleUpon like a mad man. Stumbled upon this site, and saw something quite unlike anything else on the internet.

I had been a reader of Joystiq; I'm not afraid to admit it. But the 'Toid actually made me laugh, and I couldn't stop coming back. I saw that they had a Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess contest, which I immediately entered (a penguin is my favorite animal), and I linked a bunch of my friends. I soon became involved in the forum here, started writing, and things of that nature. I haven't been to Joystiq in a long, long time.

Ditto on the comment about the writing making me laugh. Though, the community (read: forums) make me laugh more than the main page these days. I miss the writing style in the old blogs.

*sigh* I remember that day like it was yesterday!

I stepped out of the shower feeling all fresh and so clean dried my self off and wiped off the steam. Went downstairs and made some coffee, opened a jar and popped some toffee. Grabed my keys and opened the front door, hopped in my car and turned on lane 4. I passed some douche driving slow in the fast lane, gave him the finger and he felt the pain!

I was positive we've talked about this before, because I remember making my input. Turns out it was in The Bar, on this page in particular. However, there wasn't a separate thread for it yet.

I'll reiterate what I said there. I used to read CollegeHumor daily, and one time they linked a story on Destructoid about somebody remaking Super Mario Bros. in 3D. From there, I went to the forums and posted something about how they'd incorporate the cardboard box into Snake's repertoire in Brawl, and about a month later I started posting regularly. I have since stopped reading CollegeHumor, because Destructoid takes up all of my time now.

I met some guy named Ron Workman in a rape therapy seminar a few years ago, and as it turns out, he was my rapist. He'd only raped me because he was acting out on his own rape from years before. We laughed about it for a while, then I called the cops and pressed charges, and he threated my life as the cops dragged him away. "You and what army?" I said.

And he's been threatening me with ominous threats of the "Destructoid Army" ever since on my voicemail. Pfft. Whatever.

But I found this site through a bunch of pull tabs on flyers posted outside my rape therapy clinic.

My buddy recommended the world's best podcast to me one day and after listening to a few episodes I checked out the actual site, was impressed, and subsequently signed up.

I don't remember the first time, but I think it was actually Chad getting hired here that really introduced me to Dtoid.

Now, as some of you don't know, Chad and I knew each other before we both came to Destructoid. We were both community bloggers over at IGN, where we became friends and readers of each other's stuff until Chad posted that he was going over to Destructoid because they'd hired him. I ended up checking the site out to see his stuff, became a lurker, and evolved into member status from there.
