    Video Games and Popular Music

Have you ever heard a song and thought "That would great in (insert game here)"? Probably not, but I have. For example, "Animal I have Become" by Three Days Grace would be cool in Altered Beast, but as the staff credit song. What do you think? Guitar Hero games don't count. Ready, aaaaand....POST!

Black Dahlia Murder and Mastodon in Street Fighter.

The Hives in any fast-paced shooter.

Modest Mouse, Bloc Party, and a bunch of other indie/alt bands in SSX.

Any DragonForce song would fit perfectly into any F-Zero game.

I know I'm gonna get a lot of shit for some of these, but...

-anytime I hear the song "The Patron Saint of Liars and Fakes" by Fall Out Boy would fit perfectly in a fighting game like the Naruto Narutimate Hero/Ultimate Ninja games. I have no idea why but it just sounds like it would.
-"Surivalism" by Nine Inch Nails would be good for FPSs.
-if they could remove the all the lyrics except the chorus the song "Dancing for Rain" by Rise Against would make a good boss theme for an RPG.
-the song "Karate" by Tenacious D should be in EVERY fighting game.
-another song that would make a good RPG boss theme, "Body Breakdown" by Dragonforce.

thats all I got. Feel free to mock and ridicule me for my taste in somewhat shitty music

That would be insane! The music would go well while eating other people with Blanka.

I remember in a half life modded engine game, that ripped the matrix, the Run DMC song 'Can't Touch This' played in the background. That song would make good background music for any modern based fps lol! I make this musical assumption based upon a 13 year old's epeen.

I'll listen to Chuck Berry while playing racing games. It's a really good fit for that type of genre and it lends them a kind of 50's dragster vibe, which I dig.

Song 2 by Blur would work in a lot of action games.

Ironic, given the lyrics of the song.

Anyway, I can't think of any song that I'd like in a game, because I'd like the music to be created for the game, not thrown in. The only examples I can think of otherwise is when I want to substitute my own tunes for the shit-tastic playlists EA puts in their games, and Guitar Hero for obvious reasons.

Well, I don't know if you call this popular, but I always imagined songs like UNKLE's "Lonely Soul" would work well with a stealth game such as Splinter Cell. Some tracks from Peeping Tom also worked well while I played certain games.

That being said, a few weeks after I had thought of the song, Ubisoft uses Lonely Soul for the Assassin's Creed trailer. Go figure :P

Animal I Have Become would be great for any game in which you are slowly becoming less and less human(I keep thinking of Far Cry: Instincts and Bioshock but I'm not sure if those apply).

I think instrumental music is best to go along with video games.
As far as Peeping Tom goes, I think Mike Patton's voice demands too much attention...but I still love that album.

Isn't this the idea behind custom soundtracks? Many games are on the 360 are allowing you to stream your music while playing the game. I used to turn off the music in most of my games set up my 5 disk changer on random when playing games on my PC a few years ago.

Corrosion of Conformity was great when playing Crusader: No Remorse, and
Green Day was a fantastic band to listen to while playing Descent.
