    Kaiju Combat!

Now that Kaiju Combat is under development, I thought it was time to make a thread where people could ask questions, and get updates.

Let's start with the roster - we have 16 original monster concept that have been developed with the help of the community. Full design specs on all charcters are online here:

    https://kaijucombat.wiki.zoho.com/Ka...-Monsters.html

And for those too busy to read, check out the gallery here:

Not all fan collaborations will be in the first release - we're holding our community roster vote from March 4th - March 13th. Official forum thread about it located here:

    http://kaijucombat.com/community/ind...r-vote-1.3188/

Today we also announced our second playable boss character for the game: Ikameijin!

Any questions? We're trying to be as transparent as possible about our development process. You can even check out our financial statements.

Komododon walks dangerously close to being a Godzilla copyright infringement.

I agree - I wouldn't have designed him in such a similar fashion. Fortunately, he's owned by Kaiju Empire - so Toho can take it up with them!

I went ahead and voted for my picks earlier this morning. Wish I had a few more votes, there's some very cool designs to choose from.

His whole origin and appearance is just far too similar to not get attention from people over at Toho.

Plus, then they throw Totally-Not-MechaGodzilla in there too, who might somehow be even more of an infringement.

It wont happen but I guess I just wish they'd get the license and actually use Godzilla and MechaGodzilla. It would be nice to have a new Godzilla game.

Getting the Toho license, and including Godzilla / Mechagodzilla / etc. Is TOTALLY the plan. I've had several phone conversations with them over the past months. It's simply a matter of money. If we sell enough copies of Kaiju Combat - we'll be getting the Toho license. It's bound to happen eventually.

As an avid Godzilla fan, I would find that completely fantastic

And as the person trying to make these games commercially viable I find THAT completely fantastic!

I feel silly for asking this, but what platform(s) is this going to be for?

    (Because I'm super interested)

Simon, I remember you teasing the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man as one of the possible playable characters during the Kickstarter drive. Is that still something that could happen eventually? Because that would be amazing.

I am in love with the giant moaray eel and the Irish turtle. If this makes it to consoles it will be a day one buy.

We are launching on PC. The engine runs on all consoles, but it would require slightly more than our entire budget to submit the game as a console release. So that's not happening just yet.

So our plan is to launch on the PC, and use that money to pay for the certification process to console(s).

However - our finances are controlled by public votes. So I can't promise any specific timelines. We may publish on PS3/360, or we may shoot for next-gen consoles. It's all about money, and what the Design Team wants to see.

And who's on the Design Team? Everyone who pre-orders the game! (Once the first release is out, getting on the Design Team will cost $5 extra.)

We also plan to put out new releases twice a year - stand-alone games which will be compatible. And yes, Stay-Puft is pretty much a guaranteed inclusion within the year. (I've tried to get him before and the license was complicated, but that recent Ghostbusters video game paved a path that we can re-tread).

Mystical polar bear, morbidly obese t-rex, and Russian mouse/bio-weapon fusion have been picked during the first round of votes on fan-collaboration kaiju! Just cast my second set of votes for the Irish rock turtle, moray eel with coral reef exo-skeleton, and nano-machine infected werewolf. Really hope the eel makes it, the fact that a 12 year old came up with the concept makes it that more awesome (and adorable).

Moray eel, rock turtle, and the green kangaroo fursona all passed the latest round of voting. I decided to let my kiddo pick three for the final round.

Hmmm... I'm not sure Scaos is age-appropriate!

He's the type that loves spooky stuff (Halloween is his favorite holiday, and he cheerfully greets people in scary costumes with a friendly "Hi monsters!") so he thought Scaos looked "creepy and cool". Though I did definitely bowdlerize the back story a bit. Don't think he needs to know about the concept of Sin-eating just yet.
