Best New Podtoid episode to introduce new listeners to?

Tomorrow I am going on a three hour car ride with some friends. None of them have heard podtoid before, but all of them are gamers.

Which in your opinion is the best New Podtoid episode to introduce new readers to?

I would prefer it it have all of the things that makes Podtoid so good:

    1. Jim Sterling/Jonathan Holmes misadventures.

    2. Plently of off topic rants.

    3. Dafoe pitches.

    4. Above all it needs to be really laugh out lout funny.

Thanks! Right now I am thinking about episode 233: Anal Seige 2.

The one where there are worms in the anus. Or was that a Friends episode?

The one with the unagi in the anus.

A good measure would be the first Podtoid Adventures cartoon. The abortion comments are a good measure if you can take Podtoid or not.

Just go in chronological order, from around 150, the early one's are pretty tame, and the show builds up slowly that way. Dependent on your circle of friends it might not be a good idea to introduce them to the more ridiculous, anus-obsessed ones too early.

    *sigh*

Then why not pick one of the more recent ones? After Jim called for a moratorium on talking about the a-hole?

I don't think there is any place to start that is best. If you start at the beginning of 'new Podtoid', a lot of the current content isn't there. If you start at the most recent one and work backwards, you're diving into the deep end and I don't think Podtoid works out of the blue like that. Picking a an episode at random, somewhere between 185-210, is your best bet.

I do think that this is not a show that you can simply introduce people to and they'll immediately be on board with it. In fact, in its current form I think the vast, vast majority of people would be put off. Everything only really works as well as it does because it has all had a slow build up over 90 or so episodes. Hell, I've been listening to Dtoid's podcasts since the very first Podtoid, and yet I know even I would be like "what the hell is this shit?" if I wasn't familiar with the cast and show and was just randomly presented with one of the last fifty episodes.

So, go for it, just don't worry about picking one specific episode, because nothing stands on its own like that, and be prepared to switch it off after ten minutes because everybody in the car now hates you.

They are all good. All of them. Honestly, given them a list of the titles of each podcast and say, "Hey, which of these words would you like to explore". Then roll with it.

Sound advice. I'd say that the Tara and Max era is a decent place to start. I personally got in at Thirst World Problems and then immediately started working my way back, as it was the most recent at the time. Just make sure it isn't one with just Jim and Jonathan, as those are waaaaaay out there.

Funnily enough, that one isn't that bad.

Thanks guys! I ended up putting on the most recent one, episode 239. They liked some of it, but not other parts. The reaction was overall positive though.

Really? I seem to remember it mostly being Jim drunkenly offering to enter Jonathan Holmes on a number of occasions.

Robert Summa era, or Anthony Burch era.

I personally love the Anthony Burch era since you had Linde and Topher.

It had some of that. I'm not sure honestly, that's the longest one of the bunch, who knows what's lost in there.

As much as I do enjoy the current podcast, and all of modern Dtoid, I do miss Topher's silky voice and the bonkers intelligence of Linde. The Electric Hydra is so infrequent now, it's quite a shame.

And we do not speak of he-who-shall-not-be-named.

Sounds interesting: If you can, without uttering a curse that will destroy the world, who is "he-who-shall-not-be-named"?

I have only been listening to the post hiatus episodes so far...

I started somewhere in the 250s. Just take anyone. You listen to it for half an hour and you'll get the hang of things.
