I predicted it just from seeing him
    Spoiler!
Not sure why I tagged that. The codec was funny though. It's like they weren't even trying to hide it.

Also, spoiled the ending for myself on purpose, just to make sure the story was worth caring about before spending my time and money on it. It's a thing I started doing after ME3.

I don't try to avoid anything as I'm not fussed being told elements of a story, it's not usually something that can ruin the entire experience of a game.

    Spoiler!
Nevertheless, it changed how you played the game. Whenever I play through that game again (been awhile since I've done that), I do the same, but that is NOT how I played the the first time, without that knowledge.

I tried not to Internet when Mass Effect 3 came out, but I still ended up getting it more or less spoiled for me. I was working at a game store at the time and this guy started saying "Not to spoil it or anything..." then proceed to prance into spoiler territory.

Keeping away from spoilers with major releases sucks. I find myself playing through them to beat them before someone can spoil it, rather than playing it at my own pace and experiencing the story like I really should.

Also, tumblr is a terrible, spoilerly place.

I had a script outline for ME3 on my hard drive months before the game came out. The worst part of that leak was how they tried to fix the story afterwards, when the original version was so much better.

Iirc they went into this thing about how the relays were slowly disintegrating the fabric of time and space, which explains why the Reapers had to occasionally reset the development of sentient life. It was either that or allow everything to be destroyed, forever. Made more sense than "the robots are killing you to save you from the robots".

I've done that but I don't go out of my way to rush like I used to. If I'm that into a game it's usually more interesting than the internet anyway, so everything balances out by itself.

That all seems foreign to me. If it's good, they payoff should be more than the conclusion that could possibly be spoiled. The experience is there and can suck you in regardless of your knowledge of it's events. Otherwise the conclusion or possible twists are nothing more than gimmicks good for a one-off or the whole thing falls apart. I've seriously had good games draw me in so much that I forgot what I knew was going to happen, and when it did it was a surprise in the experience itself.

Andrew Ryan in Bioshock was one of those. I knew it was coming before it happened. Just the way it was set-up and the internet hints that were dropped. Didn't change one thing when it actually occured. The story and atmosphere were so well done at the time that it had drawn me in enough to make me forget prior knowledge of the events as they unfolded.

The Darkness was even more-so in advertising what was going to happen. You knew all along they were going to go after her at some point. Didn't change how gut-wrenching and hard that scene actually hit you as the player when it finally happened.

IMO if your entire experience in a game hinges on one detail or a conclusion of the experience, it was never that good to begin with.

I can kind of see how Bioshock might need an element of surprise for the twist to carry its full impact. I played after seeing people pump it up for years and came away thinking it wasn't all that. Then again knowing what would happen wasn't what diminished the experience. Looking back on it now, I realize it was more an issue of too much hype than one regarding spoilers.

What happens in The Darkness is gut-wrenching either way though. The only part which disappointed me was not being able to kill that guy with my demon powers in the end. Simply shooting him just wasn't enough.

I've never really had a game spoiled for me. When I want to know the ending I just look it up myself. If someone was to tell me the end of a game I just bought, It wouldn't matter to me, I would still play the game anyway. Also, I can sometimes predict the endings of some games.

I'm the same, for some reason I care little for most stories in games. I avoided the internet completely for about two weeks before MGS4 came out, then when I played it I hated it so much that I almost wished I had just read the spoilers so I wouldn't have been so disappointed. I've also got into the habit of spoiling plots for myself just by thinking about possible outcomes too much. I had The Walking Dead more or less figured out long before that one thing that changed everything happened. Same with Arkham City, same with Dishonored. To be fair though I'm probably not alone on this, how many games are really that unpredictable? In a way I suppose it's a shame, I'm probably not enjoying the games like I should be due to the fact that something inside me feels the need to analyse everything and work out everything that's going on before I am supposed to know. I guess they are called spoilers for a reason.

I could count the things I know about Bioshock infinite on no hands. I have gone full on blackout for that game. I tend to do that for games I know I already want. Why watch the trailers? I already know I want it.

I somehow managed to spoil the murderer's identity in Persona 4 while trying to find a decent wallpaper. I still to this day don't even know how that was a thing that happened.
