I too thought the simulant would attack, I always thought all simulants were bad. The whole phone call thing was entertaining and the episode seemed to be written more like the earlier seasons which was nice, only 1 episode in though so well have to wait and see.

I thought that too at first about the Simulant, however on reflection it was always rogue simulants that were trying to wipe out Lister. The Phone call was funny enough, but it was played upon too strongly. I always prefer a plot device like that to go basically forgotten about by the time it returns to get big laughs.

Rewatching it, I think I missed out on what happened with the star jump. I think the importance of it is that Rimmer was touching it and it brought his brother and him together again. Would kinda make more sense.

Also I dislike Kryten being ordered to erase his memory, because after all this time he is meant to be less servile, but then Rimmer was always keen on having him be a servant.

Firstly, Rimmer's parents were seventh day advent hoppists. Silly Rimmer.

The flat-pack joke was ok, but god damn another fucking time machine? This one didn't even make sense.

The Jesus thing annoyed me, and then did again later too. Red Dwarf is a damn science fiction and has always been very fictiony and sciencey in that respect. It's painted Lister as the 'God' of the Cat race and had a Robot that waited until the end of the Universe before concluding it was up to him to judge all of existence. The show has never really mocked theology (I think, correct me if you think otherwise) and been better for it in my opinion.

Kryten should have been able to power that remote. The remote didn't make sense either because what? A remote control that works across time and space? Urgh retarded. Bad Science Fiction. Sort of shit I would expect from Doctor Who.

I think I will dislike the episode the more I think about it.

The one thing I hate about X is that it either takes an age to set up a gag or there's a complete overkill involved.

In the last episode, Lister's messages to himself really stopped being funny after the third, but Naylor dragged that out to five-six returns. You knew where they were going with Rimmer hearing things too. You could easily jump in before anyone takes the piss out of him (and even then Lister makes the same "Yeah, that noise is you!" gag twice).

I haven't watched tonight's but since its a story that has them on the move, the gags won't be so tiresome.

Started well, had a horrible run of episodes, then picked up a little before the end. Not dreadful, but it felt like a squandered opportunity.
