I said come in, don't stand there

Hello, I am >implying and I just recently joined the forum. I have known about Destructoid for a long time, but only joined today because I was watching/participating in the RaiderZ Twitchcast earlier and it prompted me to come create an account as I had fun participating.

I am entering college soon with the plan to become a Game Designer/Programmer and soon hope to start work on a small project as a challenge to myself. My hobbies include Warhammer 40k, gaming in general, music, reading, browsing the web, and anime. As for favorites out of those, I would have to say the following (respectively): Blood Angels, Team Fortress 2, currently Devin Townsend (switches between a lot of bands frequently), The Pendragon series, Facepunch Forums, Steins;Gate

I hope to get along well with all of you.

Favorite classes would have to be Scout, Soldier, and Heavy. Solider has been getting more use since I got a Strange Black Box.

As for books, I love me some Sci-Fi. Read the Ciaphas Cain novels from Warhammer 40k and I am currently reading a book called Embedded by Dan Abnett. Movies really depends on the mood. I am a fan of Quentin Tarantino and John Hughes though. Favored genres are Comedy, Thriller, Action, Sci-Fi (I love Sci-Fi in general, ok?), and B-Movie.

The name came from 4chan, primarily (It's a secret to everyone).

As for my avatar, yes it is adapted from Kate Beaton. It is Anti-Mage from Dota 2.

Am I reading this correctly by thinking you have a Blood Angels army? Any others? You in it for the modelling or the playing? Welcome!

Haha nah. If anything, I'll have a Tau army. I'm kind of broke and don't have a job at the moment otherwise I would have an army. The only reason that is preventing me from going Blood Angels is that I know a lot of other people in the area play them, so I want to be different. I have been debating what color scheme to use though. I am thinking more jungle colors than the standard tan.

I'd love to get into 40K, sadly my wallet would be incredibly light if I did.

I enjoyed Space Marine a lot so it got me into the universe and although it's not canon it encouraged me to get into the books, of which I started the Horus Heresy series as they were highly recommended. Along with that I bought the Dawn of War games on Steam cheap and surprised I hadn't got into 40K a lot sooner.

Tau is interesting too, give them the Blood Angels colour scheme to really mess people up. And that hobby is such a massive money drain.

Yeah, that is everyone's issue with Warhammer 40k. Honestly, on my first investment, I am going to be dropping around $150 for my army and codex alone. Not even paints, brushes, basing material, or green stuff. The games are a good way to get into the universe, but hardly cover any of the important stuff. I have been meaning to pick up the Horus Heresy series as I heard they were great as well.

You could get a lot of their stuff fairly cheap from independent stockists who didn't have to go by GW's prices (I say fairly cheap, I just mean at a more reasonable price) but they've been clamping down on that in recent years, so the margin's a lot smaller.

Yeah, I checked Wayland Games and they had a whole army for $40 off the GW price. And then when I click to ship to the US, it said they didn't ship to the US with that product. Sucks man.

Also that, I get the impression that hobby stores selling Games Workshop stuff are harder to find over there. My nearest one here isn't far, there used to be one in the nearest town.

I've always been intrigued by GW stores and when I got older I wondered just how they survived with the little foot traffic I've ever seen for their stores. I guess the high prices, tight control on 3rd party sellers, licenses for games and books is what keeps their many stores open.

They get kids hooked and they get their parents to put down a wad.

Seemed to be their business model.
