In need of some immersive game recommendations

Okay so I finished Metro 2033 for the second time and loved being immeresed in the world, especially in the stations and imperticular that wierd bit with the ghosts. I've played HL2, Bioshock, Mirrror's edge, the S.T.A.L.K.E.R series, SH 1-4, F.E.A.R series, Escape from Butcher Bay, GTA IV, Red Dead Redemption, fallout, elderscrolls and the LoK series (save from the first blood omen). Anyhow these are the most emmerisve games I've come across and I need more!!!!

So any reccomendations would be great.

also am I the only one who liked wandering around the marine's ship in quake IV? Everyone I speak to hates that game

    Thanks

You sound like an addict. Seek help immediately before you go on an old lady punching rampage.

No, I really loved that bit. Loved all the detail they put into building up the game world in that.

Have you tried Deus Ex Human Revolution? That's pretty immersive.

    Fallout 3?

Sorry guys forgot to add Amnesia (machine of pigs looks epic), penumbra (though I class this as atmospheric than immersive) and human revolution to the grotesque list I made.

Human revolution was great, preferred it to the original Deus Ex. I'm up to the sewers in amnesia..... nuff said

Human revolution is very immersive, Amnesia not so; much more atmospheric and in no way lessens the game.

And yes I have tried fallout 3 tis a game to immense for words.....

Define 'immersive' exactly, are you looking for something that lasts for hours upon hours that you can get sucked into or something that builds up it's fictional world well?

I'd describe it, as you said, "that builds up it's fictional world well" but also involves you in it and makes you part of this world. I could describe it in many other ways but it would probably be a mess of unformulated ideas.

My best example would be in STALKER were you find other STALKERS sat by the campfire just chilling and eating a sausage . There was no need fot it in the game it served no purpose but somehow added depth to the world by making unimportant NPCs do stuff rather than stand there in as a barrier to usher you on the next part in the game. Metro 2033 sort of did that but can be forgiven as I like the way you pick up snipits of conversation.

Probably crap example but such is life...

I wasn't that into Amnesia. I thought it was boring

I agree with the Dues EX suggestion. The environment of that game was perfect for immersion

Both Demon's and Dark Souls have huge piles of lore hidden in item descriptions and NPC conversations. I find them especially immersive because you initiate those things. The whole experience is dictated by what you do, who you talk to, if you decide to kill them or not. You have to explore though. You can just run through and miss almost all of it.

I found that I could get really into the story in Diablo 3 myself. It's not FPS so it's a bit harder to get that real immersion but it is one of the games I go to late at night when I want to just be in a different world.

hmmmm might pick up Dark Souls when it gets release on PC.

Doom 3 was good but eventually it just became shoot this find PDA open door repeat. Not saying it was bad and I liked the adverts for each section of the facility.

and gotta agree with dead space I found it relatively emmersive .

Couldn't bring myself to finish the original Deus Ex. The controls were terrible, the combat was terrible, the voice acting sucked, the story I liked, and regardless of what people say the game needed more cutscenes I remember being like WTF when you land in China and Jock gives it I'm sorry JC we got caught and he just says it. Seemed sort of cheap. And what the fuck were the chinese accents? Think I gave up after getting to Paris... story was good though but the rest was pretty dismal.

I liked the dark brooding world of Diablo 2 but with this always online DRM thing for Diablo 3 I'm gonna hang back a bit

@Graaargh - very nice list! S.T.A.L.K.E.R. really is in a class of its own...

Check out "The Void" by Ice-pick games. You can get it on Steam for $10 or less. I'm dying to play their other game "Pathologic" - but it's hard to find a copy...

For a slightly different slant, you might love "Mount & Blade" - War Band is the best one thus far, in my opinion. It's an open world where you have mounted combat that is achingly realistic - some people don't like the way the game is so open, but it's really stunning to me.

In yet another vein, Civilization IV is pretty amazing. Or Endless Space, if you want something more recent. These are not FPS games, but the still scratch the same itch in my brain.

If you're willing to play something a few years old, you might like Dark Messiah of Might & Magic. I played through that one twice, just to level-up with different skills. So good...

I've always found System Shock 2 pretty immersive, despite it's age and now horrific-looking graphics.

It basically did what Doom 3 did, but before it did it ...because Doom 3 basically copied System Shock 2.

Found Cryostasis. Pretty amazing, really enjoying it so far and actually pretty scary just got past the bit with a diving suit an you get dragged off. There are plenty more memorable bits and I most certainly recommend it!

@ Simon thanks and I picked up the void a few days ago on the daily deal in steam. Was having a good time untill it crashed and I hadn't saved for like an hour. Then at another point I found I kept dying at a particular point and my latest save didn't give me the chance to get more colour and the save prior to that was ages back so sort of left it alone for a bit to play Darksiders (which is awesome).

On another note, I'm not really a fan of naruto but is it the same guy who does garrah's voice who performs in DS as war?

Anyhow, never heard of endless space might have to give it ago. Never been a fan of the might & magic franchise looks like a departure from the previous games so I may take a look. Civi IV was good remember playing it a while back may have a gander at Civi V. Mount & Blade isn't that an online game?

@Panzadolphin I've been wanting system shock 2 but it is nigh on impossible to pick up a copy.... I'm hoping GOG will add it to their catalogue soon.

Well, if you're not bothered about how you get it.... there are some *ahem* less than legal ways of acquiring it quite easily.

Heavy Rain on ps3. Absolutely drawn in, felt real emotion toward the characters, never had my heart race so hard.

Not at all. It's a "massively single player" sort of game.

Oh, and shame on me for not mentioning System Shock 2! Those nursemaids man...
