I feel like Dead Island was a neat take on survival but was too wacky with RPG elements and unrealistic weapons to be taken seriously as horror, so going further and taking the wackiness to the extent of fun gameplay is more appealing than Island's awkward mash up.
-No stamina bar
-Melee needs work; most hits don't even look like they connect
-Game looks pretty great graphically, especially for a pre-alpha
-Love the wind effects, makes the world really come alive
-Hoping the part with the little girl is a dynamic thing like the dynamic little missions you run across in RDR
-Spin attack @ 6:39
-Walking on zombies heads thing ripped straight from Dead Rising
-Day/night cycle looks awesome and reminds me of Dragons Dogma
-Speaking of that, holy shit was that intense!
-Love that you can look behind you while running from zombies (Didn't DayZ do that?)
All in all it looks like everything I wanted from Dead Island but didn't really get.
I still wish this were third person. First person melee just doesn't cut it, and the same goes for platforming elements, which is what the parkour is all about.
The game looks absolutely incredible, but the dichotomy between the serious and gritty setting and the ridiculous weapons and abilities is as disappointing as Dead Rising 3. Make it serious or not; I'm not a fan of the appeal to gritty, brown texture dudebros combined with bizarre electro-machetes.
I'm on the fence. It'd be a must have if it were in third person, though, even with the goofiness.
