    Videogame history... books

so it's still summer and that's about a good time to read some books, I recently finished Extra Lives by Tom Bissell and All Your Base are Belong to us by Harold Goldberg and I really liked the history aspects of them and I was wondering if any of you had any more reading recommendations?
Is there any must read in that particular topic? (gaming history, behind the scene of the industry)
    Thanks

Ready Player One. Not history per se, but fiction based around a world where the future reverts back to the 1980's in terms of culture, and there is actually a lot of old videogame references and trivia.

You wont necessarily learn anything, but it was fun.

Isn't there a guy who posts on the forums from time to time who wrote some books on videogame history? Can't remember the name though so that's probably not much help.

ah I forgot to mention I read that one, but thanks
Yeah it's not history per se but it's really a fun book; bit heavy on 80's pop culture references at times.

"Killing Monsters" is about the positive psychological effects of playing video games. I also enjoyed "Masters of Doom" - which is pretty much a biography about John Carmack and John Romero.

I think they're more like reference books, but they looked really cool and went down in price recently. I'll try to find the links and post them here later. EDIT: Found it - http://forum.destructoid.com/showthr...-Master-System

Liked All Your Base Are Belong to Us, but it really wasn't what I thought it would be from the description. More gaming history than gaming's influence in pop culture, and to be honest was more interesting because of that.

Reality is Broken isn't history, but is still pretty fascinating. At the very least watch the author Jane McGonigal's TED talk.

Tony Mott's 1,001 Video Games You Must Play Before You Die is a fantastic reference for the history of games. It covers the 1970s up until about 2010, and has some great writing. Since it focuses on specific games, it's not necessarily a comprehensive history, but it's a great way to see how games have progressed over time.

Game Over: Press Start to Continue

THE book about Nintendo's rise to power. The chapter on scoring the rights to publish Tetris on Game Boy is especially amazing.

Generation Xbox: How Video Games Invaded Hollywood

I read this recently and shared some impressions on the front page. If you ever wanted to know how intertwined film and game industry developments have been in the past three decades, give this a read.
