The forums get a little stranger

Hello, my name is Simon Strange.

I'm a game designer - mostly console games starting in the PS1 era, though I've also published a mobile game and have a board game in the works as well. I'm mostly known for making games about Giant monsters - Rampage, Godzilla, etc.

I play a lot of games - I try to finish a new game every Thursday. My best gaming year ever was 2006 - I finished 63 games that year. (I also really like to make lists, sort data, organize things...)

I take my work very seriously - I think games are a huge part of our modern social identity, and they deserve to have really dedicated people working to make them as good as possible.

I keep a personal blog at strangedesign.typepad.com, if you're interested in that sort of thing.

Hey what's up man. Saw your post in our Dtoid Godzilla thread, and that was pretty cool what you did there.

So welcome to the forums! Here is a thing I found just for you.

I also don't do blogs due to my inability to read.

What do you enjoy outside of videogames? Got a favourite book or movie?

    Ooohh - I love a good icebreaker!

My "favorite" book is Titus Groan, by Mervyn Peake. It's the best use of English ever. It's magnificently dense - I only know one other person who's been able to read it. Not because it's not great - but because it's very difficult to read more than 3 pages in a single day.

For books that are very, very good AND won't suck away years of your life, I was very happy to read the first two books in the Kingkiller series by Patrick Rothfuss - "The Name of the Wind" and "The Wise Man's Fear". So, so good! I love seeing how well all of the little threads of the story were set up from the very beginning - they do a great job of building a world so that you can sometimes be ahead of the characters - a good trick.

As for movies - I see quite a lot of them. Good and bad. My favorites are probably: Abre Los Ojos, Fresh, and Drowning by Numbers. Runners-up include Primer, Blood Simple, Kung Fu Panda, Shaolin Soccer. I also really like romantic comedies - though I can't think of any that I would describe as especially good.

Of course, most of what I do with my life revolves around video games. So I expect to be discussing those a fair amount.
