I don't see the microtransactions as a big deal. If you're dumb enough to pay for that shit, then you don't deserve to have that money to begin with.

Honestly, I'd appreciate an option to shut off prompts for microtransactions, but BF3 was hardly insistent about the unlock packs or whatever. All you have to do to enjoy the game the same way as the others is just not fucking buy this shit. They'd stop trying it if we weren't buying it.

I actually find it hard to blame them for it. I'm a different sort of developer, but I can see some parallels between my usual clients and gamers. Everyone wants things now, tailored to their individual tastes and not what works, with production value through the stratosphere and bargain basement prices.

It looks like it has more excess energy, but Dead Space was always 100% action oriented. It's fun to be a stonecold killer with a steady hand.

I think Isaac going from an engineer that was getting through shit for a chance at survival, because it was that or die in a space closet when the monsters find him, to someone that knows how to kill them and is solving the overall problem of space zombies in an attempt to cure himself is a "fictionally realistic" sort of progression. I mean, he's still pretty messed up, but it's the entertainment universe's way of dealing with it. A game consisting entirely of PTSD, depression, and alcoholism might be more true to life, but I don't want to mash X to stave off survivor's guilt.

Considering how Visceral straight up admitted that DS2 was their "Aliens" to DS1's "Alien", his arc is fairly in line with Ellen Ripley's. It's the usual fight the "physical and metaphorical demons" deal in a horror setting.
