WELCOME TO YOU ARE DOOM
Well, my team killed you real good too, so I guess we're even.
Eh, they were going to kill me anyway, regardless of who died during the night.
BOOSH
I guess they wolves were gunning for the rookies in the concurrent game that Byronic's running. I was under the impression a game typically began with a day phase as opposed to a night phase to at least give the players a chance to shoot the shit before getting massacred by werewolves.
The first day is almost always redundant. At the worst, it's padding. At the best, it gives the Villagers a head start. CB's idea of making the first day worthwhile is interesting but I decided to go the trad root for this game.
It does suck but it's either that or a really uneventful day one.
Saying that Clown's item picking on day one was fucking genius - it got us all talking and the talk was relevant.
Gotta say I'm a fan of Clown's work in this game.
I've had a lot of these different variations in mind for awhile. More specifically I've had these PROBLEMS in mind and have been trying to think of a way to do them.
I actually settled on the "choose your destiny" thing before deciding to make it Cabin in the Woods themed just as a way to do just that. I think it worked out pretty well. Surprisingly (without sharing too much), NOT all of the chosen people initially voted for their item. I would have thought it would be a near unanimous "Fuck yeah make me a wolf!"
The other roles tying into each other stemmed from my desire for people to want to not reveal their role just as a "get out of murder free" card. Might not be perfect yet but getting there.
I REALLY like the Seer idea I came up with (the "Prophet") in the final game.
Can't wait for the game to end so I can share details / curiosities and we can see what worked and what didn't.
So, two more ideas I had that I might use for a future game. They're kind of similar in concept.
1. Role Roulette: Every night all of the villagers shuffle roles.
- Only villagers "receive" a role
- If a villager dies, their current role is removed from the pool
2. Bodyguard Roulette: Same concept, but ONLY the bodyguard role rotates.
- This one COULD include all players, including wolves
- Bodyguard can not protect themselves
- This one might include a new extra "Seer" variant, who is told each night who the bodyguard protects. Just for fun.
Dunno if they would work or not, just tossing them out there.
The first day is largely pointless, but at the same time I hate killing off players without giving 'em a shot at all, so that's why I started with a day phase after all the instant-night phases we'd been doing in recent games before that.
I think depending on how you post during the first day phase you can sway the bad dudes' decision to kill you one way or the other, but it does drag on since nobody ever gets lynched day one. We could lynch immediately, but then everybody is all "Why are you so quick to kill?!"
Would setting up a third game in the graveyard be a bit excessive?
Essentially I feel bad for Dex... and witnessing him die early in yet another game would be hilarious.
Don't worry about me. I should probably actually be doing work right now anyway. Also, I still read these even though I'm not playing.
