There are, but there's the possibility that once all roles have been allotted some of them will be left out.
Including the multiple werewolf roles and multiple vanilla villager roles, I put in more roles than there are players. When all the roles are randomly dealt out, there's a few roles left unused. If the Thief role is in play, the Thief can choose between these roles at the start of the game.
It means there could be a Seer who knows there's no GA, a Vigilante who knows there's one less wolf to deal with, or a Wolf who knows there's no Seer. It changes the metagame.

One thing about this style of bodyguard is that it has the potential to cause nights to drag.
Night phase happens.
Guardian dicks around before checking in.
Guardian chooses Person X to be the bodyguard.
Person X is contacted by GM to select somebody to protect.
Person X dicks around before checking in.
Person X selects somebody to protect.
That's twice as much dicking around, y'see.

The plus side is it counteracts the dicking around that comes with having a Witch:
Wolves discuss who they're going to target.
Wolves dick around.
Wolves decide on a target.
Last thing at night Witch is contacted to see if he/she wants to save the target.
Witch dicks around.
Witch gives answer.
So i doubt it will elongate the night too much more than we're used to.
