Since I played few games released in 2011 but played many games for the first time in 2011, not all of these are 2011 releases.

Arkham City! While I owned it I had the Joker Steelbook. SO PRETTY.

Best Game No One Played

Portal 2, and Want You Gone. Easy one really. RDR has good sounds too though.

Most Disappointing
For me personally, Portal 2.

Biggest Surprise
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. I played it for the first time in late 2011 and was surprised by how good a campaign it was compared to all the pathetic attempts to imitate it that I played over the years.

Best Game of 2011
Hard one. Every 2011 release I played had significant issues for me. Portal 2 lacked the singleplayer puzzlement joy and replayability that the first game brought to me, Arkham City was marred by a convoluted plot and that feline online pass, and Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary had an unwelcome chunk of Halo Reach dropped onto the disc in a contrived manner.

Since the last one can be avoided and the otherwise fantastic HD remake enjoyed untainted, I will have to say Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary. Yup.

WHY?! :P

Only games I bought in 2011 were Portal 2 and Skyrim. Oh and Brotherhood which came out in 2010.

I'll just agree with Aurain even though I've never had a chance to play Dark Souls.
