How did they fuck up Mercenaries mode?

ZombiU is more Resident Evil than the last n games in this series. Actually, a third-person perspective ZombiU without tablet minigames sounds like a fantastic premise for a reboot.

It's still the same concept as 4/5. Movement just looks weird, and the animation looks weak.

I didn't particularly enjoy five but I will probably give six a go at some point... It will probably be a while after realse though since I have other priorities....

Does anyone else feel like Resident Evil ended completely, when Chris Redfield and his co-op partner shot double rockets at Wesker killing him? How do you top that?

  6. #426
I dunno, I was never that big on Wesker to begin with, so his whole storyline seemed more like a diversion to me.

As for 6, I think I'll wait for reviews.

I'm on the same boat panza. Did you read about the gameplay? That's been kind of a turn off for me too.

  8. #428
I've read about some of the changes, do you mean a particular article or bit about the gameplay?

I agree that Resident Evil has ended. What's been in its place is a husk of a series that brings back familiar faces just to convince you it's supposed to be the same series... But it's not. How do you top that? I think the more relevant question is how do you fall any lower? Sadly, the answer is already forthcoming: more non-zombies with guns, humans with guns, motorcycle chases, secret mutant Wesker children, and a 'zombie' section that still features enemies that communicate and use weapons and Leon is doing sliding gun attacks. Yuck.

Yeah, even though RE5 was rushed as hell, it did feel like the end. Everything before had led to that point, albeit truncated, but the last act felt like the big finale - a big, dumb, overblown finale. Wesker was fucked, Chris was resolved, and as much as there would always be more attacks, they tackled the worst and finished it off.

RE6's way of thinking is, "Woah, wait, did we mean RE5 was the end? Well hang on, we have this other story that works better! No, don't go!"

FYI, Conan O' Brien has reviewed it for Clueless Gamer.

Awesome. I just wish it didn't look like shit.

The old-school Resident Evils ran their course. It would have begun to tread water if it went further. We got four games and great remake of the first game. (which RE4 was better than)

I don't know, the series got fairly experimental after RE3 - Survivor, Dead Aim, Outbreak, Gaiden, etc.

Why the fuck is there still screen tearing all over the place?

Capcom releases a demo that plays in horizontal tatters. This annoys their fans and embarrasses the developer, so much so that they have to release a statement assuring people that the tearing is being addressed. Capcom then releases a second demo to make up for the first one, and there's still screen tearing. This is supposed to be the redo that makes us want to buy the game, and they haven't addressed one of the game's major issues.

And the game is three weeks from launching. What in all of the fuck?

It obviously needs another 6-9 months in development, but Capcom are desperate to unload it for a halfway decent fiscal year.

    Outbreak sucked.

Dead Aim is about as different as RE4 was.

Yep, Outbreak did suck, especially if you lived in the UK, but at least Capcom were taking risks. Once they hit big with RE4, they never really deviated all that much.

No, not really. But would staying on course have been a great alternative?

  19. #439
Compared to 5 and Hurricane 6 heading our way? Yeah, staying the course looks to have been the better option right now. I'll take frightful and fully-working masterpieces over screen-tearing Gears clones any day of the week.

If RE5 were just Mercenaries it would be a 9/10 game. No idea what I would actually give it, but Mercs makes the change worth it imo.

And RE4 the best. The castle section is a little bit corridor, though.
