Reason: Fully updated!
In a sense, I think this is an admission that the most recent Tony Hawk games have kinda sucked. When in doubt, go back to the original material. That's not really a bad thing, if it brings back the simple fun of the earlier games.
I'd like to see some of the better levels from THPS3 & 4 mixed in, though. Just big enough, with a few special whatnots (like the molten iron bucket in the Steel Mill level from 3) to be fun but not goofy. Maybe DLC later on?
Will I buy? Depends a lot on the price, but also how well it plays, if there are cool people to play online with... reply hazy, ask again later.
Back when this released on the N64, I couldn't get enough. It felt so fresh(despite my love of 1080 Snowboarding). But despite the nostalgic allure of playing a classic with beefed up graphics, I just can't get excited. Once I played Skate, I lost all interest in this franchise. Handstand grinding power lines may have been fun way back when, but now I want a truer representation of how it feels to ride a board.
It's like when I played the GoldenEye 007 remake. I was expecting the same enjoyment that I got from playing years ago, but it turns out that some of those memories of "remember how great that game was?" don't hold up when revisited.
I found the Skate games increasingly un-fun. The first one was interesting, but they got kinda dull. The skill level required to do well was approaching Madden-level intensity. If I wanted to work that hard at learning to ride a skateboard, I'd go to the local board shop and just buy one.
The promo materials for THPSHD keep mentioning "the best of" THPS 1 & 2... do we know how many levels there will actually be? $15 ain't bad, but I hope there's a reasonable number of levels.
As for the music, a buddy of mine has all the songs from the first four games (plus the ones from Aggressive Inline). I'll get his collection of MP3s and play them from a USB stick.
I'm assuming it means they WON'T include the Dam. But anyway. This is such a weird thing to get a release now. I played the shit out of 1 and 2 back in the day (even won a GameCrazy tournament for THPS1), but I would have no interest in going back to them now.
I gotta get that MP3 collection from my buddy. I'll just put it on a USB stick and play my own tunes. I should post that set on filesharing. I'm sure everyone owns the originals already, this would just be for the sake of convenience.
