There's never been a great South Park game, and what with the show lacking in recent years people may be getting rather bored of small town there's never been a less appropriate time to expect one. We can hope though.

Parker and Stone are writing the script, performing the dialogue, and overseeing the development of South Park: The Game. Unlike the cash-in Acclaim titles from over a decade ago, this ambitious project is a full-scale RPG for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. As the new kid in South Park, it'll be up to you to make friends and defend the town from a wide range of threats.

I'm glad it's getting the attention to detail their episodes get. I'd love to see references to their hits from season 4-8, which were just incredible years for the show.

I am fucking stoked that Trey and Matt are involved 100% with this project. They are geniuses at what they do. Coupled with the fact that Obsidian is developing the game just seals the deal for me.

Finally, an idea that fits South Park.

As for Obsidian, sure, they may have made Alpha Protocol and the cancelled Aliens: Crucible (for the best), but they redeemed themselves with New Vegas. Don't blame them for not finishing Sith Lords, either. Luck has rarely been on Obsidian's side, but when it works out, it works out just fine.

Anyway, this was a genuine surprise. But games based on animated TV series are rarely good. Cautiously interested?
