I R OUT
Blah. Started Craps class at work on Sunday. Unfortunately it's being done outside of my normal work hours. So I'm going to that for 4 hours a day and then immediately after doing my 8 hour shift. So I'm spending 12 hours a day M-Th at work and most of my time at home studying all the stuff for craps because holy shit craps is fucking insane.
Friday I don't work, but still have class.
I just wouldn't be able to dedicate time to it properly. I'm out for all games in December more than likely.

Craps doesn't make any sense to me. I get the dice rolling part (roll a number, then roll that number again before you roll seven), and some of the bets (you win money if the person rolling rolls double fours or whatever), but that whole Come, Don't Come, Pass, Don't Pass, Do Not Collect $200 bit totally eludes me. Also, I don't like having people betting on whether I will Come or not.

Not sure why anyone would play anything other than blackjack and poker.

I play roulette because when I'm gambling I don't really want to think. I know it's mathematically one of the worst games to play, but it's also one of the easiest.

You could also just play the slot machines.

For some reason, I'm okay with roulette even though it's completely random, but I'm not at all attracted to slot machines. Even though the agency you have over a roulette game is negligible, it still feels like you're doing something, whereas it doesn't feel like you're doing anything when you play slots.

I haven't learned Come/Don't Come but they're essentially the same as Pass/ Don't Pass.

Basically Don't Pass is betting on whatever the house advantage is, so it pays less.
Played properly, craps gives you the best odds in a casino by a small margin. This is followed by Blackjack (when everybody at the table is playing by "the book")

Mini Baccarat is almost 50/50 as well, since you're able to bet on the player or the house to win in that one. It WOULD be 50/50 except we take a commission when betting on the "banker" (I have no idea how much, don't deal it)
Carnival games are a joke, stay away (3 card poker, mississippi stud, carribbean stud, etc)

What's bullshit is that the 0 and 00 spaces don't count if you bet on Evens. They should have made those spots e and pi or sqrt(2) or something.

They don't pay on even for the same reason they're green. They were only added to increase the house advantage. Some states only have 0 and not 00.
Craps class is going well though. I THINK I mostly have my stick calls down and all the basic bets. We're learning the Come / Don't Come today and then an overview / test tomorrow. Next week we start on the hard shit, prop bets.

No, I understand why they don't pay on an Even bet, I just think they should have picked a different damn number, because zero is even. I think an irrational number would work well. Hell, it could be a symbol. I guess they would also want to keep it out of the range of 1 to 36, since you could reasonable argue that e and pi and sqrt(2) would all fall into the ranges of bets.
Maybe 36.5 would be the most reasonable thing to change the zeroes to. It'd still be green so it's not black or red, it's neither even nor odd, and it falls outside of all of the ranges. That would satisfy me.
So uh, Werewolf?

If they went with Greek letters, then you could still use Pi. Though they would more likely go with either Alpha & Beta or Alpha & Omega.
11-29-2012, 04:14 PM
The problem is that people may interpret the Greek letter pi as the number for which it often represents, which would fall clearly in the 1-12 and 1-18 ranges.
Unless those ranges are implicitly meant to only include integers.
11-29-2012, 04:19 PM
Well those selections really represent columns and groups of rows, not really specific numbers. So long as whatever they replaced it with was in the same spot as the 0 / 00 are, it would work the same as those currently do.
0 isn't REALLY an even number though.
Should be learning Roulette after craps actually. It'll probably be super easy after I learn all this shit.

Who's running the next one?

When I first did dealer school a little over a year ago I thought "Fuck, I should have mathed more in High School"

For the record, a lay on the don't pass pays 5/6 odds. That is, for every $6 it pays $5. So the answer is $60.
Craps is fucking insane.

All right, I'll run the next one. We don't have many people yet though!
