I sold my copy today because the single player was boring and multi was not worth £40 but I just read the plot on Wikipedia, the fuck is this? Is this fucking halo fan fiction?

It's pretty assrific. I like how AI rampancy has to mean that you become a hormonal, clingy, emotional 14 year old. It couldn't have been something clever or unique--like Cortana actively and subtly trying to kill Master Chief throughout the entire game--but instead had to be something cliche and juvenile. And God forbid they make any characters that are actually human and relatable as opposed to alpha-male/female assholes.

Rampancy didn't bother me. The worst parts of that still weren't as annoying as Halo 3's bullshit. An AI actively and subtly trying to kill Chief would have been cool but we've seen that so many times in the past through sci-fi. I think they could have shown the kind of trouble Chief can get into when Cortana isn't there to help more but that wasn't my problem.

It's like they gave up at the end. The flying part at the end was cool looking but the actual gameplay was boring as hell. The enemies were boring as hell. The remaining Covenant enemies we have are the same old shit except now they feel like they're on easy mode. They've been better to play against in previous games. The Prometheans have a stupid origin and are even more boring to fight as they have almost no intelligence to them. The dog things are just a swarm type opponent and the Knights either stand there and take damage or teleport. I don't think 343 understand what exactly made the enemies in previous Halo titles fun. I'd rather have been against the flood again than this.
The game is also badly made for single player, at in least in splitscreen like I was because 343 don't understand LOD at all. Scenery can disappear or turn into a disgustingly low poly forms only metres away. Splitscreen is not an excuse, this was never a problem I noticed in any other game. I don't doubt sacrifices were made in splitscreen in previous Halo titles but nowhere near as noticeable. Poorly made game. Splitscreen is still and important part of the game. If it wasn't they wouldn't have bothered keeping it in.
No way is this game better than Halo Reach, CE or ODST in terms of singleplayer content. The characters/voice acting, soundtrack and enemy/level design was much better. People won't be going back to replay missions on this game for anything other than achievements. This game had a good chance too. I was with some mates on a massive screen doing co-op on heroic and that has always been when I have enjoyed Halo more when all these flaws of the singleplayer came quickly apparent.
I'm sure the multiplayer is more than enough to warrant the money spend for everyone else if they're playing with friends. What I played of it in the laggy mess that was 3-way splitscreen on some matchmaking was decent. Nothing I can facepalm at. The loadout idea seemed nice and the killstreak addition to get ordinance is something many people will probably enjoy. None of the new maps really caught my attention though but Halo has so many great maps to fall back on either through Forge or DLC.
I like we have to install discs to get more features now. The few problems with PC gaming aren't even becoming disadvantages now.
One last thing that bothered me is the game liked to cut a lot of travelling in the game. Jumping into a Pelican will just cut to the future where you get off. This is something people might like more but these parts are where exposition won't annoy the player as much. If the dialogue bores them then at least they get to be aware that they are moving closer to their objective and can see the environment more. I'm sure players would appreciate that more than cutscenes which should be used sparingly when the action starts to kick in.
Oh and boss battle QTEs are shit. Lazy. I'm not sure why they specifically chose Keith Szarabajka either. I guess they must have heard Harbinger in Mass Effect and thought they should copy it even more by literally having the same voice. I understand him being a voice actor in the game as he's awesome and did brilliantly in Skyrim and LA Noire but to be the antagonist in both of these games ,Mass Effect and Halo 4 is just weird, considering the origin of Prometheans.
Okay that's my opinion on Halo 4. I had no high expectations, no desire to not enjoy the game either.

It's all pretty true, though I didn't even really notice the "lack of travel scenes" you mentioned. In retrospect I know what you're talking about, but it never struck me or mattered. Hell, they even had half a chapter dedicated to a travel scene as you were escorted around in that Mammoth. Then the bit where you flew a Pelican to three different objectives. Those bits weren't used for exposition like you'd like, but yeah.
