The black knights drop certain upgrade items, and depending on what they are equipped with they have a chance to drop that weapon as well as a shield.
IE: Halberd Knight can drop Blue Titanite Chunk, Black Knight Halberd, and the Black Knight Shield

Started a new game, this time as a wanderer. Scimitar is beastly even without the option to Kick.
Staying in human form has a number of advantages but I wouldn’t advise exploring new areas that way. Basically, having humanity increases your drop rate and curse resistance and allows for the kindling of fires, summoning and NPC phantom invasions (defeating Mildred in Blight Town for example yields a pretty sweet weapon called the Butchers Knife).
Humanity increases your item find (up to 10 humanities) and it also increases your defense all the way up to 99 humanities. Being human allows you to be invaded by Mildred (or anyone else). Although I would say that the butcher's knife isn't worth it given that after you ring Quelaag's bell you can go to Sen's Fortress and get the Man-Serpent great sword.
I think all bonuses cap at around 10, including chaos damage. Will check later.
Just checked the character planner.
Item discovery caps at 10 humanity.
Curse resistance at 30.
All defenses at 99.

I didn't know that. I rarely go human to do anything but kindle.
I did do some jolly co-op after the Anor Londo archers because I heard that was a tough area. That was fun.

If I want to lash out in anger every time I die, am I having more fun? Because it really feels like it.
