The Jimquisition: Super Powers are Super Sh*t

    Watch the episode here.

Another big "AGREED" here. Although with games like Prototype, it feels like the ridiculous amounts of enemies is scaled quite well. You're not being hindered at all, but you're instead able to dive down and make bacon strips of everything and everyone. The enemies aren't powerful, there are just a lot of them. Tanks (and those big blue things) are strong, of course, but that's where the actual challenge comes in. The same goes for the God of War games, in that you can basically destroy anything you come across, though there are some challenges that any superhero would come across.

Also, that hadouken destroyed many cities.

    Yeah same here
Seems like Bioshock is the only game that had that magic power aspect with a challenge that still made you feel pretty badass at times

I don't see his use of inFamous as an example unless you only play the first ten minutes of it. inFamous was fun, empowering and challenging without being a big floozy about it.

Prototype was generally pretty good about making you feel like a badass without any trouble except for certain enemies (and particularly the final boss which the difficulty just jumped up a dozen notches)

I'd like to throw this out there as well; Wolverine Origins was fucking FUN. That game was such a blast to play.

This one wasn't filmed well so I disliked it by default because I'm a prick. As for what was said in it, I haven't played those games but I can sorta see what he's talking about.

I pointed out in the comments that I didn't think Prototype was a particularly good example of the idea, because during no time throughout the game did I ever feel like I wasn't a total monster badass. He brings up that the tanks are slightly more difficult than the humans, but what I see in that is "OMG I can bring down a tank with my bare hands. I am so awesome."

The final boss fight might work for the argument though.

Yeah the tanks weren't a problem at all; more of an annoyance.

The hit squads or whatever could be pretty aggravating to get away from.

I liked playing Ultimate Spiderman on the Xbox. Venom was pretty bad ass, he ate kids to recover health.

Prototype is a horrible example because you aren't weak, there's just a lot of enemies to kill and that is in no way a bad thing. However I haven't played Star Wars so I have no idea about that.

I don't remember if Jim mentioned Arkham Asylum but that was a great game, you didn't have super powers but Batman is a superhero and he could kick all sorts of asses.

There shouldnt be powers that its impractical to use for the whole game, but the game shouldnt be one giant exploit either.

But whatever. Guns are cooler than any super power.

Jim hates on super powers because he has none.
