new to the community but not to games. I have a deep seated competitive streak that ruins most relationships in my life (You're going down at Yahtzee grandma!). Only half kidding. Some threads in the bar section of the forum says that my posts have to be approved by a moderator while others don't. There doesn't seem to be any sort of approval process here in the meet and greet section. So why do only some threads require approval? Is this an option given to the thread creator or do you all just hate fresh meat?

It's to cut down on spam, before you've proven yourself to be a real person there's no way for the site to not know you're not some halfwit spambot. As a new user it's always a good idea to spend your first posts in this section anyway! It passes soon enough.

What Tarvu said. We keep certain noob-friendly forums open to encourage real people to post there; spambots tend to go where the most traffic is (IE: The Bar) and therefore get moderated before anyone can see their posts. It's filtered by forum, not thread. The stuff getting modded are probably posts that include links or embeds. Your restrictions will be lifted soon anyway, so you won't have to deal with it much longer.
