We in the states have been brought up on the idea that slavery was just black people picking cotton for 16 hours a day then singing "negro spirituals" over a pot of chitlins and collard greens in undisturbed solace. Conveniently overlooking the depraved horrors that happened on a daily basis like slave owners raping women in front of their families just for laughs, or deformed babies getting ripped from their mother's arms and thrown to the dogs as a treat.
So when this film shows some of real shit that went down, some people's romanticized views were threatened and they decided to leave angrily.
QT must have some cut footage of more fucked up shit the producers asked to be cut out. Imma get me the eventual director's cut on blu ray.
I wish he did Director's cuts, but I guess he tends to get exactly what he wants into the cinemas most of the time.
Killer Joe-9/10 William Friedkin is still alive thank god.
Finally saw Looper earlier today (I know, I'm bad).
Spoiler!
Great little sci-fi flick.
Gonna be going a potential Internet drought for possibly up to 6 weeks so trying to get some films lined up. Currently obtaining looper, Cloud Atlas & Brazil.
'obtaining', lol
Sssssh you![]()
I need to watch Cloud Atlas still. Brazil is a classic, enjoy.
Rec 2 was pretty good, some of the zombie/found footage elements felt a little tired but I liked the take on the zombie virus.
Hurry up [REC]4!
Saw Jack Reacher just a short while ago. Not a bad film at all and given that I've enjoyed a couple of recent Cruise films lately it makes me think it'd be nice if he wasn't a wanker in real life.
Movie Weekend here..
Saw V for Vendetta, Exam, Paranorman, Super 8, Step Up Revolution and Looper.
Enjoyed each one of them!
Lucky weekend choice.
This actually makes sense.
Also caught Jack Reacher on a cinema, and the story was great, i was expecting mindless shootings and action..
But the ending was crap!
I hated the ending monologue. It should have ended when Reacher leaves.
I don't think he has that many great flicks to be fair, though I enjoyed Ghost Protocol and Jack Reacher. He's one of those actors that in my opinion does roles that most of the time any other male actor could pull off. Harrison Ford and Michael Douglas are other names off the top of my head.
I can go with that. Thinking about my DVD/Bluray collection (which is waaaaay to large), I don't think I own any of his movies, but I feel he always does great in his roles.
Wait, just thought of one: I was given Minority Report as a Christmas gift several years ago. So I own one.
I can't say I like any film where Tom Cruise has a leading role. He's almost as bad as Nic Cage in what he chooses to do.
I'm watching Cloud Atlas. Still got a lot of it to go and it is hella confusing but it has some of the most convincing prosthetic work I've ever seen. A wonderful and looping cast too. Hugo Weaving is popping up everywhere right now in it.
Also I gotta tally up how many films I can remember watching in 2012. Scary numbers.
