I saw it in the cinema, but honestly, it never stuck with me beyond the castle and the scarecrow. It's also a movie about loyalty during war, but never really gets too deep compared to something like Laputa, so you have this jarring third act and a dark moment that ends abruptly. I have a feeling there was more to the movie, but there's a few sub-plots vying for your attention.

I'm more of a Porco Rosso/Kiki's Delivery Service kind of guy, anyway.

Django looks stupid. Quentin Tarantino's an overrated bullshitter who's made a cottage industry out of a cheap and pastiche-laden attention whore's approach to film-making. He's done about as much damage to the face of independent film-making as assholes like Mike Patton and John Zorn have done to independent music-making.

Whatever. I'd rather see newer filmmakers and screenwriters creating movies that have staying power rather than emulating the over-stylized flash-in-the-pan shit that guys like Tarentino, Robert Rodriguez, and Eli Roth cook up on a regular basis.

I'm a Princess Mononoke/Porco Rosso/Spirited Away/Kiki's Delivery Service kind of guy, but I still really love Howls. Just dig the castle and the magic and Calcifer so much.

I'm also a bit iffy on Django Unchained and don't particularly like Tarantino or Foxx. DiCaprio looks so wonderful in it, though, so I hope it's good.

Watched Howling last night, entirely for Kang-ho Song. Definitely the worst movie I've seen him in. Not that it was terrible, or anything, but there just wasn't much too it (also all the other movies I've seen him in have been really good).

Watched Woman in Black today. Not sure why that was rated PG/12 it's not. Anyway just a cold, wet, muddy film with some moment that were spooky. I hear the stage version is far superior.
