Brave

Not what I was expecting. After a minute into the movie I thought "Damn, other than this girl is good at archery I have no idea what this movie is about"

Was good though. Felt a little disjointed at times, but nothing too bad.

Brave was a depressing movie.

We saw wreck it ralph right before we left for Disney. Overall, I thought it was really well done. I would go see it again that's how good I felt it was. I think I enjoyed it because I could relate to the movie, but it was also cool to see some of my favorite characters. It was disappointing to see how little merchandise Disney had of wreck it ralph. I was hoping to buy something rawr.

Couple of things. First, movies don't scare me. At all. Horror video games fuck me up something fierce, but horror movies just don't scare me.

Second, I feel like selling the movie as "THE MOST TERRIFYING FILM YOU WILL EVER EXPERIENCE" is biting off an awful lot. Pretty big statement, especially for a remake/reboot/whatever. Though the original's tagline was "THE ULTIMATE EXPERIENCE IN GRUELING TERROR", so hyperbole is nothing new for the series and can almost be expected.

I can't believe how much I'm looking forward to this remake. I'd still rather get an Evil Dead 4, but this is actually fine by me as well.

I watched the red band trailer and if it didn't have Evil Dead at the end, I would probably mistake it for one of those awful Elm Street/Texas Chainsaw/Friday the 13th/Halloween/Hills Have Eyes remakes that were all the rage a couple of years ago.

People remember 2&3 as tongue-in-cheek, but the first one was genuinely terrifying to me as a kid, and even now, it's pretty po-faced to the point where I don't really need an update in my life. I've said it before, but I think the last 30 mins of the original should be part of a film school cirriculum.

I love the camera work and tricks throughout the whole movie. From disorienting the viewer by placing the camera at the same angle as the hill the car was parked on when Ash and Cheryl try to leave, to stuff like the sounds added as the camera moved over the rafters in the ceiling, to all the crazy shit in that last stretch you mentioned. Raimi was on top of his game from the start of his career.

That was unintentional. For Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness they FULLY embraced the cheesiness of it, but the original was meant to be a serious horror movie.

The trailer looks pretty great for what it is.

I'm with ZP though, horror movies don't "scare" me. ONE did horrify me though: Martyrs. But that was more on an emotional level than anything close to resembling fear.

I can agree with that point of view. I hate torture porn and "realistically" gorey shit, but because it's unsettling/gross, not "scary".

Watched Immortals. 300 was hardly a master piece but the style and choreography was great and it's a little bit sad when a film so blatantly tries to emulate its success but fails so miserably at it. It was tolerable but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Also watched The Guard. Really funny and the lead actors are all fantastic. There's a really great line near the end of the movie that parodies how theatrical the script is too that really cracked me up.

Currently watching Star Wars I through V. Phantom Menace leaves much to be desired. I personally quite like Attack of the Clones though. Not got any further but I discovered that you can't buy new copies of Star Wars films in standard definition anymore. Pretty sad.

Not since the 90's, when they remastered the movies for home video. After that, the Special Editions came along and replaced them. I know there's a guy out there re-jigging the special edition of New Hope to make it more like the original, but nothing official. Makes me wonder if Disney will re-release that stuff. They'd make a killing if they did that and they love re-releasing oldies on new formats.

I'm fine with keeping Empire as the Special Edition version. It's relatively untouched compared to the other two and the bits they've added is just stuff like making Bespin feel more alive in the background. So its all cool.

I'm sure we'll see some sort of re-release of the original trilogy to build up hype for the new flicks. It should be a no-brainer for Disney to release the original untouched versions. They would make more money and it would bring them some much-needed goodwill from aging fans who have given up on the franchise because of Lucas' wacky iron fist.

I would like to take this opportunity to point out that Disney will have basically NOTHING to do with new movies coming out. Just like they have nothing to do with Marvel's movie universe and nothing to do with Pixar. They just own it now. The studio itself will be run the same as it always was.

I hate it because it's mindless. Like the Saw series, right? The first one had a clever ending and most of the second was brilliant, after that they gradually devolved into reptile brain crap. Sucks when one of your favorite evil mastermind characters winds up being reduced to an excuse for snuff.

That last sentence isn't entirely accurate, because the series was interesting up to the point where Jigsaw stopped being part of it. Everything after that was shit though. Except for the part where Donnie Wahlberg got his head crushed, lol. New Kids on the Block were big when I was in high school so that amused me.

Carrying my fuck Saw rant a bit further, I REALLY hated the fake female Jigsaw who had no good reason to put people in deathtraps. The silly bitch killed them even when they escaped, which completely defeats the purpose. You're supposed to make people appreciate life, not deprive them of it. Introducing her was pretty cool though, because her general incompetence made you realize how awesome the real Jigsaw was.

It's not so much the more Disney and the less George Lucas that makes people hopeful for new Star Wars I think. That way for me at least.

I watched Brave, I've missed other people's opinions on the film but ever since I've started modelling and animation I can't stop being amazed at what's achieved in these films. The message of the story was standard and everything past what I knew about the story from the trailer was nothing awful but nothing great. It looks so good though.

I watched Total Recall (2012) too. I haven't watched the Arnie one in ages but a lot of it was familiar. Probably too much. I just love the setting so much. Such a beautiful world they made.

Both of these films had nothing special of a story I found. They just looked amazing.
