Thread: The Cinema / Rate the last movie you saw

It's not the sort of film that draws me out of the building or my monies from my coin purse.

Sure, but I don't care too much for the genre.

I care for the genre, and having seen plenty I just don't see anything special about it.

    Ended up seeing Skyfall.

I found it a lot better than Quantum, but not nearly as good as Casino Royale. The villain was good and they didn't fuck up Q as much as I figured they would.

One thing I didn't like about it was there wasn't really a female lead like in every other one. Yea, there was Moneypenny, but she wasn't the love interest and
    Spoiler!
I think it's a step closer to how a Bond movie should be, but it's still got a little ways to go. Maybe they should just stop trying to make new Bond stories. Get back to Spectre and write some good shit.

I would like to go back and watch Casino Royale now, because I really loved this one, I think it's better than Casino Royale, but I need to go see it again and compare them both

Hey look what I found. It's the 1954 version of Casino Royale.

Watching it now and American Bond is horrible in so many ways. Peter Lorre saves it as the villain though. He's magnificently sinister in just about everything he did. It's like the man was part reptile.

It's also interesting how they adapted the torture scene for their particular audience. Obviously they couldn't have a dude get beat in the nuts on fifties television, but what they went with instead has a fairly high emasculation factor in its own right.

Nobody has any idea what the fuck is going on, but it appears that there's more to the suit than what we've seen.

Yeah, I thought it was black before?

The theory was that the black wasn't complete, which may be true. That second one looks like it'll probably be some kind of "combat" armor or an upgrade or something.

Watched Kairo (aka Pulse) yesterday. It was spooky in lots of places but it needed some establishment and then it kinda lost the plot for me and we just skipped to the end.

    Young Adult was good.

    Half Nelson
was interesting and Ryan Gosling is still super hot and cute as a coked up disappointment.

Great indie film, if a tad predictable. I'm suprised that it didn't have some kind of revival after Drive, but there you go.

Rewatching TDKR and reminding myself of a whole bunch of inconsistencies whilst seeing a few new ones.

    Spoiler!

Also, literally any film can be picked apart for logical inconsistencies, as I recently demonstrated with The Mist. For whatever reason the internet felt a special need to go there with TDKR. As if the mass murder on opening night didn't bring enough negativity.

The day after the film's release someone had posted a C-blog where that was all he did, just went through and listed around ninety bullet points, with all of it being the usual complaining for the sake of complaining. I started to go through and counter each claim but by the time I got to the second one I was like, why bother? It would have been a prolonged conversation with someone who only wanted to diminish a good thing. It makes more sense to appreciate that good thing while allowing the feeble minded to wallow in a false sense of cleverness.

...not that the last part is directed to you, of course. It's just that, fuck, nobody but me really understands how awesome that movie really is. I kind of feel sorry for those whose lives haven't been touched by the Bat-Lord. He saves, you guys.

Complaining for the sake of complaining is a pretty common thing on the front part of the site. Most of the internet, really. That tendency is what I referred to when using the term to describe a C-blog.

As far as this particular film - for whatever reason, there was a clear trend at first where everyone wanted to go over it with a magnifying glass. Every review I saw in the first week or so included silly crap like, "the film doesn't make sense because how did he get back to Gotham after escaping the pit?"

I can tell you why the details of his return weren't explained. It's because they weren't necessary, they would have contributed nothing to the greater theme, and the running length was around three hours already. Expositional shortcuts such as these can be found in nearly any film and the view taken of them in this case was noticeably disproportionate.
