Played the new music-based schmup Symphony. Been a huge schmup person for awhile and I am loving it so far. It can get insanely frantic, though you can't run out of lives. The game instead creates visual damage to your ship and renders some of you weapons useless, until you die and then "recapitulate". It also has a "story" for all of those Game Masters out there.

It's a very competitive schmup and as such is fairly deep when it comes to high scoring. It also has plenty of customization options much like Beat Hazard in terms of weapons and perks. Having enemies jump out into the arena to the beat of your music is pretty cool too.

tl;dr Symphony is a great schmup and is very pretty to look at.

    Yep, glad to help.

    EDIT:
Figured this link may help. Would've been DTOID, but I believe their only coverage was a preview.

Woooooow, so I'm at the final quest in mothership zeta, all I have to do is beat this one last thing, I died 5 times before figuring out how to fight this thing and once I have at 5% health the game freezes up on me.

Shoot outs to Bethesda building every game together with glue, rubber bands, and paperclips.

I remember the first game being very engaging and the voice acting was good but this one is topping it ATM. Unless they do something completely retarded with the ending this game will be close to perfect. Even if they do manage to fuck up the ending, the mystery and journey to it so far makes it a 9/10 for me.
The Darkness was amazing, I loved it for what it was. The sequel took every aspect of that game to the next level. Very surprising to see a shooter with such an emphasis on story and doing it so well. It helps that the source material is pretty strong (although very 90s by comic standards) on its own right.

The end was one of the first games I've played in a VERY long time to make me just drop the controller and yell "FUUUUUUUCK YOU" as I eagerly await another sequel.

Mike Patton fucking killed it again as The Darkness.

The ending was fine to me, even if another game never comes. Wasn't really to interested in the Angelus so the cliffhanger after the credits was more of a confirmation that another game could be made. The "bad" ending is what really made my jaw drop when I read about it. Doing that when you know that basically means your reality is over but you get what you ultimately want is just crazy.

I'd be fine with it, though that's a pretty big cliffhanger to leave. I'm just glad they even actually had the Angelus. All the items in the game kept teasing it and I was wondering if that would be their only nod to it or if they would go full on and have her in the game.

I think this one did well enough to get a sequel, though I guess we'll see since all the trouble 2K has been having.

That said, the game will be $15 next week at Best Buy so if anyone doesn't have it ...

Sounds pretty good Used. This is kind of abstract but how would you compare it to Jericho? I was able to appreciate how they ended that one. It was like a nihilistic deathsploitation film of the seventies, where they wouldn't even try to give the viewer a sense of closure. It just kind of stops at a certain point. The approach would seem lazy anywhere else but it works really well when depicting the finality of violence.

I might pick up a copy then. It'll probably be a while before I play it though. The first Darkness was depressing as hell, plus I'm just now starting the second disc of LA Noire. I already know how the story turns out there, and going from a cop getting killed by his corrupt superiors to this seems like a little more back-to-back negativity than I'd really want to deal with.

I don't think the ending was really a cliffhanger unless you've read the comics and know/care what the Angelus story will be. I thought the best story was finalized, and that's the story of Jackie and Jenny.

Yeah, to be honest I wish they had left her out of the sequel. I haven't really looked at how they followed up with that yet, but it seems kind of cheap to bring her back. Just the idea of it seems to diminish the impact of the original.

    They treat it very well.

The Angelus is the polar opposite of The Darkness and is Chaotic Good. It serves as the primary antagonist in the comics, alongside the Brotherhood group that's also introduced in The Darkness 2. Overall the sequel adds a lot of shit that was supposed to be in the beginning of the story but wasn't.

Regarding it being worth $60, I agree fully. The campaign isn't terribly long (nor is it criminally short) and the co-op/side stuff is interesting for what it is, but it does what so few games manages and tells a great story.

If you even kind of liked the first one, you'll love the sequel.

They do Jenny right. It's haunting and sad. Some bits are forced, but most of it is well done.

I'm loving Deadlight at the moment, not as bad as it's made out to be. Makes me wish for a remake of Another World or Flashback.

Yeah, it's not bad at all. Just a bit overpriced.

Interesting, but a lot of investment to play NeoGeo games I can download off of PSN already... Also, why the hell is there still no rerelease of Windjammers?

So everything is still priced outside of my ranges, just like it was when it was around in the 90s. I remember the carts used to run close to $200.

Wasn't the system itself around $700 - $800 too? I remember wondering as a kid who the hell would actually pay that much for video games.

Somewhere in that ridiculous range. I thought the same thing considering it wasn't that much better than the SNES or N64.
