I agree that the exploration in Mass Effect was pretty terrible. Maybe in the second one all those boring pre-terraformed planets will be more interesting.

As for the whole first game being a prologue... I guess I can agree to a degree (har har rhyming). Mass Effect 1 did spend a lot of time just giving the player a feel for the universe, all the different species and politics and things. In retrospect, it feels a lot like the pilot episode for a new TV show.

I still think that the first Mass Effect was a lot of fun to play. And if the second one is 10000 times better, then GOOD. That means it will be a SUPER AWESOME game.

There was no debate at the time, just you doing your generalization/oversimplification thing again.

"It was paced awfully"? Aside from the first chunk at the Citadel and again at the finale, you set your own pace. If you want to blitz through the main story missions and get to the end you can do that, the planets/clusters you need to go to are clearly labeled. If you want to take your time and do everything there is, you can do that. If you want to hop around from star system to star sytem and mix it up, whatever, it's up to you.

And doing those main missions feeds you bits of the story as you go. What's Saren's plan, how's he going about it, what's going on here and there. How are the humans getting along on the Citadel, all that. There's tons of story there, but in high Gatsby fashion it's brushed aside as non-existant because you didn't feel it to be sufficient to your ideals.

Guess what? Mass Effect's story was layed out in a fashion very similar to your much touted Dragon Age. Did DA arguably do it "better"? Probably, but not to the extent you're trying to make it sound. They were telling different types of stories anyway. If they were movies DA would be a big period drama revolving around political intrigue, while ME is closer to a cliche '80s cop flick, where he's sent to track down the big "bad guy" by his superiors who don't like his style. You're not going to expect the same thing from different genres of movie, why games just because they're in the same RPG medium?

Sure is confrontational in here. Have some old-school Mikey fan art to cut the "tension".

I agree with Gatsby a little though about it being more of a prologe, but then, if you think about it, being the first part of a confirmed three part story, wouldn't having some kind of super epic all encompassing narrative/conclusion have left them with nowhere to take the story leading into the sequels?

Of course, because of this, I find it hard to judge merits of things such as the morallity system and certain aspects of the story since those things are technically incomplete with how they are suppose to be brought back in ME2.

Oh btw, I don't know what they did to the graphics, but ME2 looks a shit load sharper than the first one, and I like it. I was just noticing that when looking at the screenshots.

I'm pumped for the next ME, the revamped biotic abilities look amazing, the gunplay more refined, and hopefully, no mako.

I would quite happily sacrifice a lot of planets for a few well thought out and polished ones, the planets in ME2 were just awful when you think about it, nothing ever happened there. I would like to think they added alien planets too, but all we got were human colonies and all of them were boring to explore.

The one thing the first Mass Effect missed a trick on is bringing a sense of life and diversity to this universe which apparently has so much of those two things but never really showed it.

I'm hoping for a situation in which another race is trying to apply for council membership much like humans did in the first game. Shepard can help them along or be a dick about it.

I also agree on the idea of exploring alien planets. Or even Earth. I mean, we got to explore the moon (boring!) but not Earth?

I love the stuff I've seen of Mass Effect so far, definitely one of my favorite 360 games ever. I even have a cardboard standy from ME1 in my bathroom.

I just want to point out that I was the one that suggested Mikey drawing that. It's one of my proudest Dtoid moments.

As an Adept, I have to say that the finale was like an apology for 60% of the game where being a Biotic was a struggle. The brilliance of taking out three enemies in a single move? Worth it.

And from what I've seen, ME2 is a full game of that. BIOTIC PRIDE!

Nemesis. It's like winning at life.

Float N' Snipe. It's like playing 3D Duck Hunt, but with robots and crab-people.

Oh, and I hope ME2 keeps the background history specific missions from 1 to build on. "I Remember Me" was the most emotional side assignment/quest/job I've ever played.

I'm partial to my Engineer with the shield eating power, the weapon eating power, and my Stiletto VI pistol.

Odintal... is your avatar a drawing of Commander Vimes?

I think we all know the Soldier class is the best, you pussies are just to afraid to say it.
