I am a master student who began from Europe on a great journey and ended in the other side of this world, Tokyo, to write my thesis and graduate :-)

For the last two months I have been doing research on digital game distribution and its impact on the video game industry. For a specific part of my thesis, I need to assess which video game characteristics are important for gamers and how much. Basically I need it to show that gamer preferences constantly evolve, and how digitally distributed games, mobile games and browser / social games have introduced new types of "value".

For data collection, there is no better place than an internet forum. On my search for a decent one, I remembered I had checked so many destructoid links in the past, but never followed the forum. Better late than never, I suppose.

I would really appreciate if you could dedicate 10-15 minutes of your time to complete my questionnaire and help me with my research, I really need as much input as I can get.

My name's Dan. I go by Nihil on the internet because I'm a unique snowflake that deserves his own online handle. Anonymity has served its purpose for me and I've moved away from that, so it's just a screenname, for the most part. I mean, if you're up for a philosophical discussion or whatever, I'm all for it. Just don't expect me to care too much, 'cause I'm not out to convince anybody of anything. To each their own, and I loathe politics.

A few things I enjoy are; quality television programming, fiction writing, Arizona green tea, horror stories, chess, and stand-up comedy (favorites are Dave Attell and Maria Bamford). I'm also quite fond of comics, D&D, and instrumental music. Fun fact: On my own accord as a kid, I listened to symphonies on the radio. This might explain my inherent affection for big words nobody ever uses in everyday conversation.

I'm 28. I've been playing video games since I was 3, and I've played quite a bit of everything. Because of this, I have an active imagination and I spend a shitload of time there, though I usually just keep that to myself.

Spent my formative years as a latchkey kid in a dysfunctional military family. I self-medicate with cannabis for depression, which may sound like a joke to some, but it's more affordable and effective for me than pills and therapy - both gauntlets I've been through and don't care to retread. I have a thing about my time being wasted (when I'm not the one doing the wasting).

I've been listening to podcasts way more lately. Used to be three or four I subscribed to regularly, but their broken schedules left me wanting. My current rotation includes Girl on Guy, How Did This Get Made, Mental Illness Happy Hour, Idle Thumbs, SModcast, /Filmcast, and a few of your local community pods. Half the time, I listen to them while playing games that don't require my full attention. Other times, I listen when I'm in bed not doing anything or trying to go to sleep.

I don't get out a whole lot. Doesn't feel like I do much of anything, so I'm the least interesting person I know. Not terribly sure how to feel or go about this, since intimacy may become a thing down the line. It probably won't become a thing, though, so I'm not stressing over that too much. I'm stressing more over my fucked up hairline.

Losing your hair sucks, guys. Don't do it.

Lastly, I also sometimes read the Dtoid headlines, blogs, and forums. I just read... Without replying. Why?

Besides not really having a strong opinion on anything, I don't rightly know why. That's what I'm trying to zero-in on right now. It definitely has to do with the extended sleep break I took, but otherwise, I feel like, I dunno. I'm not ingrained anymore, but I suppose that could be easily remedied.

I guess what I'm getting at is that I don't wanna go through starting over, again, for whatever reason that may pop up next time. But it's not like I'd be starting from scratch - I see you guys fight sometimes and I'm like, "Would it really be worth it if that's gonna happen?" And then I remember a time when that wasn't even a question to be posited, because this was my home. And I'd like it to be my home again.

Things in my waking life are so much better now than when I first arrived here. I was in a pretty dark place for most of the first year. Although initially, I hadn't planned on staying, I realized that interacting with and getting to know people here had become my primary source of joy. So, I opted to go back into the outside world and seek reemployment. You guys are literally the reason why I'm not fucking up my life more than I already have.

And then that bit with my sister last summer... So many people came through for me, when I had reached yet another breaking point. And many of those people are members of this community. I haven't talked to any of you in a long while. So yeah, I feel really shitty about going silent. I don't want to use my illness as an excuse. Maybe I needed a time out, or maybe I was being selfish. Maybe these smelly condoms are expired, I don't know.

In my current headspace, I have choices. For some reason, not being here with you is one of them. I have to say, that shouldn't be a fucking option. I know I'm not obligated to stick around. But I've given up a lot of things over the course of my life, in order to make it easier for me to not care. I don't want this to be one of those things.

I personally like a ton of games, my favorite 3 are System shock 2, Battle Filed 1942, and Yoshi's Island super nintendo. Super Nintendo is my favorite gaming system, probably computer games being my second fav type of games.

I like all games, I just find that I like games from those generations the best. I'm just a humble Canadian who likes to read Destructoid and only occasionally posts. Just decided right now that I'd make a forum account before bed to hopefully meet some new people and have some good conversation.

I pretty much play almost everything, though I tend to shy away from sports games and am mostly interested in rpg's, action games, platformers and shooter's. Currently in the middle of the new Dragon's Dogma, with some Pokemon Black 2 on the side though I'm notoriously fickle and absent minded, so if something new distracts me I might forget to beat them.. I'm also a fan of comics, anime, books, etc.

Partook in the GB COLOR, GB advance, and PSP. Also dabbled in PS2, Wii, Have a 360, android device at the moment. Oh did I mention I was alive for the PSone and the NES? I had almost forgot to mention one of my favorite systems the SNES, I owned an Genesis as well. ummmm I received a N64 in 96. Never really touched a PS3. I do miss my Sega Master System, so good. Hey all. Figured I'd finally make one of these things to see what the forums are all about. I've been a Destructoid loyalist for three or so years now and I'm a fairly regular contributor to the Community Blogs, but kinda never gave the forums much attention. This here place doesn't get much exposure on the front page, ya know?

I love video games with a burning passion. My favorite games are Shadow of the Colossus, Final Fantasy IV thru X, Mega Man series, Metroid series, Suikoden series, Silent Hill series, DOOM series, etc etc. Right now I'm currently playing Forza Horizon and just beat No More Heroes and Papo Y Yo.

I run and "star" in a let's play-style webshow called Headache Heroes where my buddy and I pit ourselves against ridiculous challenges in all kinds of games. It's like a mix between Game Center CX and Game Grumps. For example our inaugural episode was Sonic 2: don't let Tails die. Yeah it didn't work out so great. We're always open to new challenge suggestions so let me know if you have a good one! The more ridiculous the better!

Talking about video games is my jam. 95 percent of the folks in my real life could not give less of a shit about this fantastic medium, so I resort to the internet. Oh internet.

Hi guys, I'm obviously new here.

I love video games! But it's not until recently that I really got into it, playing older games and stuff. Would you even believe me if I said that I only played Team Fortress 2 yesterday? You can say I've been living under a rock, a rock that resembles a house, with windows and all that. Now enough of me trying to be funny. I enjoy most genres of video games, whether it be from triple A devs or indie devs. Stealth games have some special charm on me, I don't know why. Favorite series is MGS, Kojima IS god. I take care of my PC and PS3 very dearly since my dad sold my PS1 without profit and my PS2 and PSP got stolen. Fuck you, evil doers. Aside from video games, I spend time watching TV series or animes, watching movies, reading books, reading comics, anything I can get into. I am catching up on Doctor Who, Game of Thrones, and Community. Random Comic Fact: Doctor Octopus currently inhabits Peter Parker's body because Peter Parker is dead, I mean, nobody cares about him, right? I spend days visualizing games that I want to make but is impossible at the moment. I joined the forums because I think you guys are cool and this is how Anthony Burch started though I doubt that I will never come close to what he has done in this universe. Currently playing Borderlands 2. I hope to get along with you all.

I'm also now obsessed with HAWP. Who wouldn't be?

What's up everyone. Known about Destructoid for a while but never really thought to join the forums. Anyway I'm 30 years old from Australia and love me some games. Primarily PC but I recently fell down the Sony hole as well. I'm not sure what I would consider my favourite game genre, but a few of my game loves over the years have been Doom, Metroid, Warcraft, Street Fighter, and Bomberman. I have a man crush Edmund McMillen, and absolutely love The Binding of Isaac (note the av).

Hey guys, I've been around semi-frequently these the last few years, but have been much more active in the last few months. I've decided to give these forums a go because I often have great conversations with fellow D-toid members and wanted the chance to have even more interesting conversations. Also, it's great to shoot the shit once and awhile. I'm not sure if this area is like an introduction section, but I guess I'd like the chance to talk about myself so you can get a general idea of who I am. A bullet sheet of cool facts helps I think!

- I'm 22 years of age, and live in Maine. (North Eastern United States)
- I once got my nose broken on Valentine's day.
- I started gaming when I was five or seven, and I remember watching my creepy aunt's boyfriend play punch-out.
- I'm really into music and can play a few different instruments; drums and guitar mainly. Drums for uhh.. 8-9 years and guitar for 4 because I couldn't bring my drumset to college. I also try to make music with Famitracker and I love old school sound modules.
- Also, college!! I'm actually graduating this Saturday with a double degree in Molecular biology and Microbiology. I'm also attending graduate school in the fall for a Master's degree.
- Animal Crossing is fucking awesome.
- Once, while at Palace Playland in New Hampshire, I drove my Go-kart over a guardrail and the race got immediately shut down. Oops.
- I'm currently listening to the new Sabrepulse EP, sounds good!
- I recently discovered I love almonds.
- I went to PAX East for the first time this year, and my brother and I were the youngest people in the Destructoid family photo by a large margin. (I think!) Will definitely be going again next year.

They call me Pope Bonerface(nope no way I'm going to regret this username), but I've also been known as Colm, Firo Prochainezo, Jace, disappointment, and oh god that prick again. If you see any of those folks lurking around chats, it's probably me. As a gamer, I'm not very good at vidya, but I love it with all my heart. My most recent obsessions have been 999, Fire Emblem, and Shadow the Hedgehog (which is obviously the best sonic game in the series due to its serious, serious nature).
As for other things that make me a unique little snowflake, I consider myself a good writer and singer, as well as an excellent slide whistle player.

Hey Destructoid family, been a fan since discovering HAWP way back when and I join to not only spread word about my youtube channel, but to join a new gaming community. If you're interested, I've tried to make a not-boring summary of my history as a gamer right here. I'm currently playing Saints Row 2 co-op with a good friend of mine (the same one who traded me a DVD drive for a piece of sweet potato pie, actually). I've never been one for GTA-style games, although I often watched my brother play GTA3 and Vice City. Luckily, said friend is very good so he does the driving and I attempt to shoot at things out the passenger side window and sometimes I hit. I also intend to give Darksiders another chance after reading Jim's review of Darksiders 2. My initial trial ended with me feeling very "eh, I've got other things to play," but Jim's convinced me to give it a second go.

You can also blame Jim for my appearance here on the forums. It's all his fault.

My name's Burt Wankfaster. Well OK it's not. It would be fun if it was though. I'm a mostly organic life-form of the human male variety. I'm a mountain man from the fine land of Caledonia That is to say I'm from a shitty estate just outside Edinburgh and my house is up the hill a little bit from the main road. I'm kind of semi-unemployed at the moment. My mother's disabled so I look after her full-time plus I help out at my old high school teaching guitar, bass, and vocals when I can.

Now down to the juicy video game discussion. I've been playing as long as I can remember. I distinctly remember at the age of 5 or 6 being given a Game Boy with Mario & Yoshi, Golf, & Tetris 2 by a family friend who didn't want it any more and to this day I still can't believe there was an actual Tetris 2. I guess I really only started "taking games seriously" (ugh) a few years ago when I bought my PS3. A few of my favourite games are Fallout: New Vegas, Wario Land 2, Metal Gear Solid, Donkey Kong '94, Just Cause 2, Punch Out Wii, The Curse of Monkey Island, and Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time. That's just the ones I can think of straight off the top of my head.

I'm not sure what else you want me to say so I'll just answer the things laid out in the guide.

Your hobbies: I make music, I... actually not much. Most things I do in my spare time revolve around music or video games. Then again, I don't have a lot of spare time.

Criminal record: One warning about noise, retracted when I produced evidence that I moved into the house a week after the complaint was made.

STD test results: None, but I really should get this thing checked out.

Ummm for instance recently finished the Persona 4 Golden Edition, and loved it. I like a lot of RPG's really. But not only. I first found out about Destructoid after watching an episode of Hey Ash. I found out Anthony wrote for Destructoid so I check out the site and haven't look back. I'm currently playing Bioshock Infinite and loving it! My primary gaming device is my PC, but I also have an Xbox 360 and PS3 for console exclusives. I do a little reto gaming now and then to play some of the classics I've missed. I like a lot of different genres of games, the ones I don't like are: sports (excluding Tony Hawk and SSX), racing, fighting, and I've been tired of rhythm games since Guitar Hero 2.

I joined the forums because I got bored at my shity job and thought "What the fuck, what's the worst that can happen?"...
