That preview that Hamza threw up today looks awesome. Personally, I loved the first iteration of the game both from a gameplay perspective and it's narrative. The new themes seem a lot darker and I'm really excited as to how the story is going to play out. Anyone else have any thoughts?

Got early access tonight on Steam. This game is crazy fun. I'm digging it more than Scott Pilgrim (gameplay wise).

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn

I know there was an old FF XIV thread, but it hasn't been active in a few years, and, since FFXIV: ARR is essentially a new game, I thought it would be best to give it a new thread (though the mods may decide differently).

I just downloaded the beta client for the PS3 yesterday, but haven't started it yet. I was in the beta for the original and didn't enjoy it at all, but all the news and videos I've seen of ARR have me pretty excited.
I have to admit that I'm not very experienced with MMOs, like, at all, so I haven't decided what race or class I'm going to choose. Is there a reason to choose something like a fisher or carpenter over a warrior or mage? That seems like it wouldn't be as fun.
Is anyone else going to be participating in the beta?

STORY

Mr. Crab and Mr. Fish find themselves in a bit of trouble when they discover a treasure chest full of gold coins. Pretty cool right? WRONG!! Because this chest is rumored to be haunted by GHOST PIRATES!! Nasty,
mean and terrifying Ghost Pirates!! Oh No!!
It's up to Mr. Crab (with the help of Mr. Fish) to run as fast and far away from the "Ghost Pirates" as he can (or so he thinks).

Travel to fully 3D and unexplored ocean depths featuring a variety of unique levels while dodging and jumping over obstacles, searching for bottles that contain some good and bad effects while collecting starfish along the way. But beware of frisky blowfish and evil catfish, because these fish will make a crabs life very unpleasant along the way.

The Citizen Kane of Gaming. DKCR was one of the best 2d platformers ever made and this looks to basically just be The Galaxy 2 to DKCR's Galaxy 1 if that makes sense. Wonder how hard the game will be.

Looking good! All characters will be playable on Wii U and 3DS, however stages will differ depending on platform. The Animal Crossing Villager looks appropriately weird. He has the ability to grab any projectile or item and store it for later use. Pretty cool.

Whoa! NES-style Mega Man joins the battle. Fucking badass.

Whoa!! Wii Fit Trainer joins the battle! Wait, that doesn't sound cool at all. (Actually, she looks awesome. The video sold me.)

Since it's going to be cheap I'm not too disappointed by it. Someone with a Windows Phone might be interested that their phone now has a game Microsoft are serious about. The game probably won't be touched on Windows 8 though. Maybe some time we'll get an actual Halo game made this decade with PC in mind.

The Fable series is owned by Microsoft and created in the slave dungeons of Lionhead. Occasionally, the mouth of Molyneux will be sent forth into our world to proselytize non-truths about the series.

The first game, released in 2004 for the Xbox and again a year later with expanded content for Xbox and PC, was called Fable. The second game, released on Xbox 360 in 2008, was imaginatively called Fable II. Two years after that was Fable II II (sometimes known as Fable III). A messy Kinect title was also made, but nobody has played it so we don't know what it is called. Fable is getting a HD re-release, Fable Anniversary, in 2013 to coincide with money money money money money.

Double Fine's MASSIVE CHALICE

Double Fine announced their second Kickstarter project today for a game called Massive Chalice. It's said to be a strategy game inspired by X-COM, Final Fantasy Tactics and Game of Thrones. Characters will age as the game progresses and it will be up to the player to decide whether to keep them in battle for as long as possible or pull them out to make babies and carry on the bloodline.

Check out the Kickstarter page if you want to get in on this. Though I have yet to back anything on Kickstarter as of yet, this one is very, very tempting.

World of Darkness

For those of you unaware, WoD is an MMO in development by CCP (the EVE guys). It's been in 'production' from 2006, but only now is it starting to actually get into full swing. The game uses the Old World of Darkness setting, probably most famously used in Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines.

Here's the deets:

7+ clans
open sandbox; seamless travel between cities
servers\cities have their own princes, who run the show and can call blood hunts
backstabbing politics to get to the top
blood as a currency
mass PvP battles
expansion packs will include hunters and werevolves
lore is written by the same guys who made the setting
Masquerade system
permadeath (if you violate Masquerade or become a target of a Blood Hunt)
oWoD setting
you start as a human, and must be embraced by another player
